Grocery Store Limits on Essentials

Food Basics, Metro and related stores in the chain
COVID-19 – What we are doing to continue to serve you well Dear customers, We understand that the current situation related to COVID-19 is disrupting your lives and raising many questions and concerns. Please rest assured that all our food stores and affiliated pharmacies are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our customers and employees. Your well-being and that of our teams is at the heart of every decision we make.
In addition to setting up a special committee to closely monitor the situation and stay in touch with public health officials, we have implemented additional preventive measures. Grocery stores and pharmacists-owners already have very high hygiene and sanitization standards in the normal course of their activities, as we contribute to your health every day.

We are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfection of our grocery stores and pharmacies, including our equipment, the most frequented areas of our stores, etc.
We are also increasing sanitization measures throughout our supply chain to ensure that the products that arrive in our stores and pharmacies are as safe as possible.
We are asking our employees who are not feeling well to stay home and take all necessary precautions.
We are also asking our employees to adhere to strict hygiene practices.
We have removed all testers from the beauty and perfume sections and suspended the use of testers in the cosmetic department of our pharmacies.
In addition to implementing these preventive measures, we are making every effort to continue to serve you well and meet your needs.

All our stores remain open and we are taking the necessary steps to avoid stock shortages as much as possible.

Our stores have the latitude to apply a limit of 2 products per customer on the products that are most in demand to ensure that the greatest number of customers have access to the products they want.

Our distribution centre, store, pharmacy, and online grocery teams are making every effort possible to ensure product availability and to meet the recent spike in demand. The situation is far from perfect and is evolving rapidly, but our teams are working relentlessly to make it happen and meet your needs. We would like to thank them for their excellent work and dedication during this period, which is also difficult for them and their families. Due to the increased volume of visits to our websites, you may experience delays or unavailable periods. We are working to minimize disruptions and increase our capacity to offer you shopping alternatives that allow you to buy the products you need without leaving your home, such as our online grocery service at metro.ca and the delivery service offered by many of our grocery stores and pharmacies, where the services are available.

These alternatives are proving to be important for the most vulnerable people in our communities. We all recognize that these are extraordinary and unprecedented circumstances. The situation is changing rapidly, and we will adjust our plan on an ongoing basis to continue to deliver on our promise to meet your food and pharmacy needs. Together with our grocers and pharmacists-owners, we are working hard to offer the best service to our customers in all communities, and we thank you for your continued trust.
